In Spring 2004, the computer department of Cal State Monterey Bay held a design contest, and I submitted one of my interactive multimedia pieces that I developed, and won First Place in the multimedia category and creative deliverable. I received a full-version copy of Apple Final Cut Pro 4 as my award.

Scope

The Project was “The History of 3Dfx Interactive Inc.” The entire CDROM-Based project was a Flash interface that contained a complete timeline of the history of the company, a complete gallery of products they developed, commercials produced, Key people within the company, and a record of video games that supported the 3Dfx graphics technology that propelled the Computer gaming industry into what it is today. The reason for this idea to come alive, was because during this time, 3Dfx was bought-out by its rival NVIDIA. 3Dfx then became a speck of sand that was once a mountain.

Development

The project was 90% developed in Macromedia Flash 5 (pre-Adobe), Adobe Illustrator 9, along with Wildform SWFX type effects. The entire project was a 2-3 month design and development process in designing, and was finalized in Early 2002 for a the CST201 Media Tools course final project.

Inspiration

Since I was learning Flash at the time, I did need some design inspiration for this project. The one site that gave me that was a Flash site designed by a designer in Denmark named Joen Asmussen. He developed this Flash site called “The Turtleshell Story“. I tried to emulate some of the same animations and elements this designer used, and it gave me a good direction on how to produce this project.
